You have been kiteboarding since 2003, do you have a favorite kitespot?
Home. I also love Maui and Australia.
Which is your favorite board?
133 Caliber XO.
Susi, who or what inspires you?
It’s hard to pinpoint one thing that inspires me, as I like to find inspiration in lots of different things all around me. I know that sounds cliché but it’s true. The main thing I gravitate towards is positive energy. I admire people with a strong drive to follow their dreams and do what they love.
If you had to pick two athletes, dead or alive, to go kite with. Who would they be?
Two people I would like to kite with are tennis player Serena Williams and freeskier Sarah Burke. Sarah was a friend of mine and she passed away, before we had the chance to kite together.
Which is the best city on earth and why?
New York City, because it’s everything a city should be and it’s the only place where I can fully escape from my beach lifestyle.
Do you have your own way of life?
I try to live my life by the words of wisdom left to me by my grandfather: “It’s better to regret something you did, than something you didn’t do”. In other words: I am the kind of person who prefers to try something and fail, rather than sitting around and when it’s too late wondering what would have happened if… I like to travel, explore new places, meet new people and always learn new things. I like more sharing my experiences with others than being on my own.
What do you want to achieve next? Any goals for the future?
I have been a big ambassador for trying to get more females into my sports. One of my biggest achievements in 2014 was to develop the first ever full range of women’s specific kite equipment together with my sponsor Cabrinha. I think this is the first big step to my ultimate goal: seeing more chicks in the water than guys!
Last words for today?
When the surf is blown out, go fly a kite!
