What inspires you the most in your sport and daily life?
Nature with its adverse conditions, being out there in the absolute greatness of it, feeling the force of the ocean in waves and depth.
What does your ideal training day look like?
I don´t have a routine. A lot of my surfing and freediving are close to the limit of what I am capable of, so I supplement them with many full rest days. I do train, both muscles and apnea, and I do stretch and prioritise healthy foods but above all, the focus is on adventure.
Where is your favorite place to surf and why?
For surfing, it is Ericeira and recently also Nazaré. For freediving, it´s the little island of Gozo. In both places, I found home.
What’s a personal mantra or mindset that keeps you motivated?
Be protective of your freediving. Be protective of your surfing. It´s a piece of advice I got from my freediving mentor Jesper Stechmann and I hold it dear for surfing, too. It´s about creating positive experiences and shielding oneself from negative ones. I think everyone can interpret it in a way that works for them. For me, it´s mainly about the people I surround myself with and that I depend on for safety in my sports.
What are your main goals for 2025?
My main goal has been a dream for many years which I almost didn´t dare to speak out loud. That is to become a big wave surfer, the first female, German big wave surfer. I have been paddling bigger waves for years now, and then a few weeks ago, I came to Nazaré to practice tow-in surfing. And suddenly, one session, that dream became reality. My other goals are to do an intensive phase of freediving later on in the year, perhaps to reach some new depths. I am playing with the idea to do my first competition but I am not sure about it. And then I am already thinking about the next big wave season ahead.
Any pre-session rituals or routines you swear by?
Packing my gear the night before, and still leaving the house ridiculously early. I will always be very German in that regard. And a black coffee before or after the session.
If you could surf/train with any two athletes, who would they be and why?
I am a big fan of Sebastian Steudtner, the way he seems to manage everything so professionally is a true inspiration and very much in line with my approach. For freediving, I am very lucky to be training with some of the best athletes every year, especially with Jesper Stechmann and Dawid Tran Van - so I just hope that this will forever stay this way.
How does SWOX fit into your lifestyle, and what do you like most about it?
I have incredibly sensitive skin, think rashes and irritations and pimples from literally anything, including the elements. Safe to say it doesn´t fit my lifestyle, at all. Luckily, SWOX helps protect me and my skin has accepted it.
